    MARKING CONTINUED NATIONAL RECOGNITION

Home of the Navajo PRCA Rodeo Selected as Cheyenne Frontier Days Qualifier for 2026

    Window Rock, Arizona – March 20, 2026

The Navajo Nation Division of Natural Resources (DNR), which oversees the Navajo Nation Fair Office, proudly announces that the Home of the Navajo PRCA Rodeo has been selected as one of the ten official qualifying rodeos for the 2026 Cheyenne Frontier Days.

This designation places the Home of the Navajo PRCA Rodeo among an elite group of events whose competitors can earn qualification points toward competing at Cheyenne Frontier Days—one of the most prestigious rodeos in the world and known as the “Daddy of ’em All.”

The 2026 Home of the Navajo PRCA Rodeo is scheduled for May 29–31, 2026, at the Dean C. Jackson Memorial Arena in Window Rock, Arizona. The event continues to gain recognition within the professional rodeo community while showcasing top-tier PRCA talent and celebrating the rich culture and western heritage of the Navajo Nation.

Being chosen as one of only ten qualifying rodeos from the entire PRCA schedule highlights the rodeo’s growing prominence on the professional rodeo circuit and its commitment to providing high-caliber competition for contestants and an unforgettable experience for fans. It also strengthens the rodeo’s role in helping determine which competitors advance to Cheyenne Frontier Days.

According to W. Mike Halona, Division Director of the Navajo Nation Division of Natural Resources, the recognition reflects years of intentional effort to strengthen and reposition the rodeo.

“A couple of years ago, we decided to steer the rodeo in a new direction,” Halona said. “By changing the date and officially establishing it as the Home of the Navajo PRCA Rodeo in 2024, we aimed to build a stronger event that is more financially responsible and capable of standing among the best rodeos in the country. This recognition by Cheyenne Frontier Days shows that those efforts are being noticed.”

Halona added that the honor reflects the commitment of the Home of the Navajo Rodeo Committee, Navajo Nation Fair Office staff, partners, sponsors, and the many Navajo cowboys and cowgirls who contribute to the event each year.

“The best fans in the PRCA are the fans of the Navajo Nation,” Halona said. “Our focus has been on building an event our community is proud of and one that brings people back to the arena.”

With its designation as a 2026 Cheyenne Frontier Days qualifier, the Home of the Navajo PRCA Rodeo will help determine which competitors earn a spot at one of the world’s biggest rodeos. The Navajo Nation Division of Natural Resources and the Navajo Nation Fair Office look forward to welcoming competitors and fans from across the region and the country to Window Rock.

Home of the Navajo PRCA Rodeo Earns WPRA Top Three Best Ground Recognition for 2025

Window Rock, Arizona — The Navajo Nation Division of Natural Resources (DNR), which oversees the Navajo Nation Fair Office, proudly announces that the Home of the Navajo PRCA Rodeo has been awarded 3rd Place for Best Ground Conditions by the Women's Professional Rodeo Association as part of the 2025 WPRA Justin Best Footing Awards.

This recognition, presented during events surrounding the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, honors rodeo committees that demonstrate excellence in maintaining high-quality arena conditions. The award reflects the rodeo’s strong commitment to providing a safe and competitive environment for both athletes and livestock.

Ground conditions are a critical component of rodeo performance and safety, directly impacting competitors in events such as barrel racing.
